For 34 years, Zurko's Flea Market has been a summertime tradition.  It is held at the Shawano County Fairgrounds in Shawano, WI every Sunday and runs from April through early October.  The Market began in 1970 with only a hand full of dealers, but now fills the fairgrounds.  Wandering around looking at the hundreds of dealers displays is a great way to spend a Sunday!  Just keep in mind that you will need most of the day if you want to see it all and get a chance to look at all of the wonderful treasures that it was to offer.  You may find that piece that was missing from you collection!

Jill and I arrived bright and early Sunday morning just as the flea market opened at 7am on June 27, 2004.  Many dealers were just finishing setting up their displays.  Despite the chilly morning temperatures, eager "fleas" were already arriving to get the good early buys.  This was the 3rd time that we had tried to cover the flea market, however the first two times Mother Nature kept dealing us a hand of rainy weather.  This day however started cool but turned out beautiful with lots of sunshine.  It was an ideal day for treasure hunting!  The flea market is a perfect place to do your shopping, not only can you find just about anything you may be looking for, but it's very convenient.  You can go from a booth full of clothes, antiques, Nascar items, plants, tools, birdhouses, even puppies!!!

What I like about the flea market is that two people can look at the same item and see something completely different.  I collect baseball and football cards, so I spent my money and time at a stand that had boxes full of them.  Jill however couldn't for the life of her understand how someone could get excited about something like that.  I finally understood how she felt when I quickly became tired of looking at every piece of jewelry at the flea market, which is where her obvious obsession lies.

If there is something that you have been looking for or need to get, you may want to think about swinging into the flea market to see if it is there before you try going somewhere else.  I always
thought of the market as somewhere to go for mostly knick knack type items, however it was a pleasant surprise to see all of the practical items available.  Some necessity type items that caught our attention were water cans (which we both needed), a wide variety of tools, clothing items ranging from shirts to dresses, specialty foods and plants.

All of this and it is only $2.00 to get in the door with free parking.  We noticed a large amount of families there, it's a good inexpensive way to spend a day with the family.  With food served on the premise and the market running from 7am to 4pm, you can plan a full day of treasure hunting.

Zurko's Midwest Promotions holds not only the Flea Market in Shawano, WI - but also promotes
Antique & Collectible Markets at the Lake Co. Fairgrounds in Grayslake, IL, which is held on the 2nd weekend of every month.  There is also another Antique Market in Wheaton, IL at the Du Page County Fairgrounds which is the 3rd Sunday of every month except July.
This is also the site of their All-Night Flea Market -
World Famous top 10 flea market in the World!
