Antique market makes comeback
Second show of season set for Sunday
BY

JOURNAL
CENTREVILLE — The St. Joseph County fairgrounds is the site of
the second “First Sunday Antique and Collectible Market” of the
season this weekend.
This year’s markets are under new ownership. Show owner and
Wisconsin native Bob Zurko is a veteran in the field of antiques
and collectibles. Last month, his entire family accompanied him
to Centreville and worked as a team.
Beautiful spring weather helped make Zurko’s first market May 7
a success. The first market happened to fall on the same day as
the Mendon Dust-Off and brought many visitors in antique cars.
The annual summer event took the year off in 2005, but Fair
Association marketing director Tina Stemen is happy with the new
people in charge.
“As you may remember from last year, the shows were canceled
when the former company filed for bankruptcy,” Stemen said. “We
are very excited to have this company here as they produce many
great shows in the Chicago area.”
Irene Zurko helped her husband check in vendors along with their
sons, Tim, Adam, Andy and Chad.
Zurko promotions is also famous for its antique tours to Europe.
In past years, family members have led tours to England, Poland,
Italy, France and Germany.
Other markets operated by the Zurkos include Chicagoland’s All
Night Markets, Garyslake, Ill., Wheaton, Ill,, Pheasant Run
Antique Show in St. Charles; and the Eagle River, Wis., Antique
Fair, a Civil War Show and National Jewelry Show.
Show hours Sunday are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Setup is permitted 10
a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. |
